Ecological data changes, and even carefully checked content can contain mistakes. We'd rather fix an error quickly than leave it standing, so we make it easy to tell us when something looks wrong.
How to report an error
Use our contact form and choose "Correction request" as the subject, or email us directly at [email protected]. Please include:
- The URL of the page with the error
- The specific claim, number, or statement you believe is wrong
- A source for the correct information, if you have one
What happens next
We review every correction request against the original source we cited and, when relevant, against more recent data. Reports that point to a clear factual error are generally addressed first; we aim to review and respond within two weeks of receiving a report, though verification against a primary source can take longer for complex claims.
How we record a correction
When we correct a published figure or claim, we update the article, update the "last checked" date on the affected data, and, for substantive factual corrections, note the change in the article itself so returning readers can see what was updated and why.
What this policy doesn't cover
Disagreements over editorial framing or writing style aren't corrections in this sense — we're glad to hear that feedback too, through the same contact form, but it won't necessarily result in a change. This policy covers factual accuracy: numbers, dates, conservation statuses, and similar verifiable claims.
